Matt Nagy defends Bears' search for new kicker after backlash from several prospects | Sporting News

Matt Nagy is sticking by his decision to bring multiple kickers to rookie minicamp in May on a tryout basis. Nagy received criticism for the way the Bears handled the offseason kicker search specifically from the players who left without a contract. “I understand – we brought in a lot of kickers that came in here,” Nagy said Wednesday, via ESPN. “To me, I look at it as a positive, in the fact that we said we’re going to turn over every stone to find whoever’s out there. We felt like we, at that point in time, when we brought in a bunch of kickers, we’re going to test them…

Rashan Gary injury update: Packers first-round pick (neck) carted to locker room | Sporting News

Green Bay’s first-round pick is dealing with a bit of a scary injury. Rashan Gary, the No. 12 pick in the 2019 draft, was carted to the locker room after suffering what appeared to be a head/neck injury during Green Bay’s matchup with Oakland on Thursday. Gary, 21, stayed down off the field after making a tackle from behind, but was able to walk off on his own power. Soon after though the team carted him to the locker room. This may have just been a precaution, but either way, it’s usually not a good sign when a player has to take the cart to the locker room. Gary’s agency…

Steve Bruce press conference: Newcastle manager on his critics, Sean Longstaff and ‘very, very good’ Tottenham

Steve Bruce has called for calm amid rising discontent over Newcastle’s winless start to the new Premier League season. A home defeat by Arsenal during the opening weekend of the campaign was followed by a comprehensive 3-1 reverse at promoted Norwich last weekend, prompting an angry reaction from fans already disenchanted by Rafael Benitez’s departure and Bruce’s appointment. And while not wanting to comment too much on those criticising him, Bruce used his pre-Tottenham press conference to highlight the fact he’s been in charge of the Magpies for just two games. The under-fire boss also discussed various other topics in his press conference, including the latest team news, Sean Longstaff,…
