Apple strong-arms Web site into going dark

It’s an unusual argument, to declare victory in a First Amendment speech battle while agreeing to stop publishing, but that’s the outcome of the Apple Inc. lawsuit against the Think Secret Web site, which regularly published breaking news about Apple product releases before the image-obsessed company was ready to announce them. The Web site and its lawyer are saying that because the agreement includes Apple agreeing to stop seeking his sources, it’s a big win for the First Amendment. But shutting down a Web site and no longer publishing news is hardly a win for news reporting. Denying Steve Jobs his black-turtleneck moments is a sin in Mac world, but…

Las Vegas paper to comply with narrowed subpoena

Even as the Las Vegas Review-Journal said it will cooperate with a narrowed subpoena from federal prosecutors for information about two anonymous comments left below an online news story, the ACLU announced it would seek to quash the subpoenas on behalf of the commenters, the paper reported last week. The newspaper resisted an earlier subpoena that sought information about more than 100 comments posted to the story. The paper’s reporting on a tax evasion trial in federal court had attracted a great deal of online comments, some of which derided the prosecutor in the case. Fantasy Football Injury Updates: Brandin Cooks, Dede Westbrook affect WRs on Week 9 waiver wire | Sporting News

We’ll surely concern ourselves more with Davante Adams and DeSean Jackson later in the week, but Sunday itself was a tame day for WR injuries. Brandin Cooks sustained a concussion, but he’s not fantasy relevant for Week 9 because of a bye. That leaves Dede Westbrook as the most likely to affect Week 9 WR rankings after a Sunday injury.
