No recognition for altruistic Mercedes acts, rues Lauda
Triple world champion Niki Lauda says he is frustrated to see Mercedes not getting the credit it deserves for trying to help Formula One against its best interests. The German constructor has been comfortably dominating the sport in the latest turbo era, securing two championship doubles, 32 wins, and 36 poles since 2014. Mercedes has recently came under repeated attack from F1 commercial rights boss Bernie Ecclestone, who is wary of its growing influence as it supplies four of the 11 teams currently enrolled in the championship. Despite Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff saying engine manufacturers could not afford to be charitable, the Stuttgart-based constructor agreed last January on a…

Reverse grids would lead to overtaking work
Reverse grids would lead to teams developing their cars to be better at overtaking, according to Pat Symonds. Bernie Ecclestone has been keen to change the qualifying format in order to lead to more unpredictability in races following a run of 39 pole positions and 35 wins from 41 races for Mercedes. With one suggesting being reverse grids, Williams chief technical officer Symonds believes such change would force teams to adapt car designs to make overtaking easier. “It would [help], what you need is an incentive,” Symonds told Sky Sports. “The incentive we have in all motorsport is try and put our car on pole and lead every lap of the race.…

Exposing the Great 'Poverty Reduction' Scandal
The received wisdom comes to us from every direction: poverty rates are declining and extreme poverty will soon be eradicated from the face of the earth. This narrative is delivered by the World Bank, the governments of rich countries, and – most importantly – the UN Millennium Development Campaign. Relax, they tell us. The world is getting better, thanks to the spread of free market capitalism and Western aid. Development is working, and soon, one day in the very near future, poverty will be no more. It’s a comforting story, but unfortunately it’s just not true. Poverty is not disappearing as quickly as they say. In fact, according to…
