Dark Horse Tweaks to Boston Marathon Elite Lineup – Yuki? Remember Marshfield on New Year’s Day
With the current weather scenario for Boston, defending champion Yuki Kawouchi is looking better – not great – but better. We said “Marshfield” to Yuki this afternoon in the Copley in Boston and this brought a broad smile. Marshfield is where Yuki set the world record for most sub-2:20 marathons, and he did it with a negative split after needing the first loop to thaw out as temperatures barely budged from 1˚F. You Can Still Run Races … In Utah
The race must go on! That’s how Speedgoat trail race director Karl Meltzer sees it and apparently how most of Utah does, too. The ultrarunning legend and longtime race director decided this week to move forward with his 50K and 28K races on July 25, 2020, at Snowbird ski resort in the mountains southwest of Salt Lake City. He’s not moving ahead in haste, belligerence or political angst. He just wants to put on his race and have runners enjoy it. And so far, Utah is one of the few states to allow some running races to return amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Taking A Proactive Approach Meltzer said he and…

5 Takeaways from the 2014 UTMB
Between the course, the weather, and the competition, the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc is always going to be epic. 2014 was no different. Francois D’Haene nears the finish of a dominating performance at UTMB 2014. Photo by iRunFar/Kirsten Kortebein Friday evening, hordes of runners set off down the cobblestone streets of Chamonix, France, to run around Mount Blanc in the 166K Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc. The circumnavigation, which takes runners through three countries and through the night, is something of an instant classic and always captures the attention of the ultrarunning world. Here is what we saw in the 2014 edition. 1. Francois D’Haene put on a clinic If there were any…

Leadville Cancels 2020 Trail Race Series
When trail runner Mitch Dulleck heard the news on May 12 about the 2020 Leadville Race Series being canceled because of Covid-19 pandemic concerns, he was devastated. He figured it was coming, but the 52-year-old Leadville resident was still disappointed because he had been training for the scheduled August 22-23 Leadville 100 with the hopes of finishing it for the first time. Life Time, which owns and operates the Leadville Race Series, had previously announced the cancelation of the June 13 Leadville Trail Marathon and Heavy Half Marathon at the direction of the Lake County Board of Commissioners. After continued talks and information gathering, the board decided on May 12…
