Moxley vs. Guevara set for Bash at the Beach episode of AEW Dynamite

After refusing Chris Jericho’s offer to join the Inner Circle, Jon Moxley will face off with a member of the group next week. AEW has announced Moxley vs. Sammy Guevara for next Wednesday’s Bash at the Beach-themed episode of Dynamite. The show is taking place at the Watsco Center in Coral Gables, Florida. The main event angle on last night’s Dynamite was Moxley responding to Jericho’s offer. Moxley acted like he was joining the Inner Circle, then said he was just kidding and would never join them. He called the Inner Circle a stupid group and said the only thing Jericho has that he wants is the AEW World Championship. Moxley then…

Placido Domingo withdraws from Met Opera after sexual harassment allegations

The Metropolitan Opera announced Tuesday that Placido Domingo had agreed to withdraw from his slate of scheduled performances at the opera house following allegations of sexual harassment made by multiple women in two Associated Press stories. The opera legend indicated that he would never again perform at the Met. Domingo had been scheduled to sing the title role in the season premiere of Verdi’s "Macbeth" on Wednesday night, which would have been his first performance in the United States since the AP reported that numerous women had accused him of inappropriate behavior, including one soprano who said he grabbed her bare breast. The Met had been under increasing pressure to…

Cardiff jihadi Aseel Muthana begs to return to UK from overcrowded Isil prison in northern Syria

A Welsh man who left the UK at 17 as one of the first British recruits to join the Islamic State group has been found in a secret prison in northern Syria, where up to 5,000 inmates are living packed into tiny cells. Aseel Muthana left his job as an ice-cream salesman in his Cardiff hometown in 2014 to follow his brother to Syria. Mr Muthana’s brother Nasser was a prominent recruiter for Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil), and their close friend Reeyad Khan appeared in one of the first Isil propaganda videos. Both Nasser and Aseel were added to the United Nations sanctions list in 2015.  Nasser…

Jeffrey Epstein’s former friend Jean-Luc Brunel ready to speak to prosecutors

Jeffrey Epstein’s former close friend and business partner has insisted that he is “not on the run” and is willing to talk to prosecutors, despite not having been seen in public since Epstein’s death.  Jean-Luc Brunel, 74, is a model scout who is said to have “discovered” Jerry Hall, Angie Everhart and Christy Turlington.  The Paris prosecutor’s office opened a preliminary investigation in August into any possible Epstein victims in its territory, and Mr Brunel is of potential interest to investigators. Last month police searched Karin Models, which Mr Brunel founded. In court filings, Virginia Guiffre, a long-time accuser of Epstein, claimed teenage girls were brought to the US by…

Hungary’s Right-wing Fidesz party sustains heavy losses in local elections

Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s dominant Right-wing Fidesz party suffered large losses in Sunday’s local elections in Hungary. Opposition candidates won the mayoral race in Budapest, the capital, and were also projected to win in 10 of the country’s 23 largest cities. In 2014, the opposition won just three of those races. Fidesz, which had won every major election since 2010, kept up its dominance in smaller cities and towns and, especially, in rural areas. In Budapest, however, where Fidesz has long faced more resistance than practically anywhere else in the country, opposition candidate Gergely Karacsony, a former pollster and mayor of a Budapest district, headed to a victory with the backing…

Petrol bombs thrown in Hong Kong as anger flares over ‘triad’ attack on protest leader

Police and protesters exchanged tear gas and petrol bombs in Hong Kong on Sunday amid anger over an attack on a leading activist by men allegedly linked to triad gangsters.   Clashes broke out as tens of thousands took to the streets for an unsanctioned anti-government march, many also defying a face mask ban introduced in a bid to curb the protests.  Tensions ran high after Jimmy Sham, the leader the Civil Human Rights Front which called the march, was attacked earlier in the week by a group of men wielding metal poles and hammers. Witnesses said that those responsible for the assault were associated with pro-Beijing triads that have…

Why so many residents of one Chinese province put their lives in the hands of ‘snakehead’ smugglers

Mr Wang was a newlywed with a baby when he decided to shell out £22,000, to "snakehead" smugglers who promised him safe passage to the UK from China.  Going abroad seemed a better bet than farming at home in Changle county, among many poor communities on a circle of islands in south-eastern Fujian province. “Life was terrible here; there was no way to make a living,” he told The Telegraph. “Everybody wanted to go abroad and start their own business.” As a Christian, he also risked falling foul of the atheist Communist Party, which was demolishing churches as part of a wider crackdown on religion that continues today. So he…
