Renault boss Cyril Abiteboul insists that he’s not worried about Esteban Ocon’s run of form since he joined the team at the end of 2019. Comcast/Charter Deal a Dupe, say Critics

Comcast, the cable and internet service giant, is attempting to smooth the road for its mega-merger acquisition of Time-Warner Cable by selling off some its services and assets to the nation’s third-largest cable provider, Charter. But critics of Monday’s announced deal say neither consumers nor regulators should be fooled by the scheme that will do nothing to improve services or allay concerns about the creation of ever-larger cable corporations. According to Reuters: But experts at Free Press, a media watchdog group in Washington DC, however, say the deal is a sham. “This convoluted transaction may change the final tally of subscribers under the proposed merger, but it can’t change the…

Chilean Artist, Activist 'Liberates' $500 Million Dollars of Student Debt — By Burning It

An artist and activist in Chile has “freed” university students from their student debt by burning $500 million dollars in debt notes. The action last week was the work of visual artist Francisco “Papas Fritas” Tapia, who took the debt notes during a student takeover of the University del Mar, burned them to ashes, and put them on display as an exhibit. “Authorities began shutting down” the university “last year for financial irregularities and encouraged students to seek out alternative universities,” the Santiago Times reported, but “the university is still collecting on its student loans.” It is slated to close at the end of this year. Chile has been hit…

UK Moves to Legalize Mass Surveillance

The UK government is pushing to pass an emergency law that would allow for storing and tracking the public’s phone calls, text messages, and internet use. The bill, which is set for inter-party reforms later this week and is expected to pass, was created as a response to alleged domestic terrorism threats — although the validity of these threats and the likeliness of an attack are uncertain. Recruitment propaganda and videos of alleged war crimes by British citizens in Syria that surfaced on social media this year have helped fuel speculation and reports of radicalization on the home front. However, former MI6 chief Richard Dearlove said Tuesday that recent fears of…
