Grosjean: Russell only driver to message me after Haas exit news

Romain Grosjean says George Russell was the only driver on the grid to send him a message of support after Haas announced the Frenchman’s exit from its team for 2021. Grosjean and teammate Kevin Magnussen have both been dismissed by Haas, a decision that could signal the end of the pair’s career in Formula 1. There’s obviously little compassion among F1 drivers when a rival is forced to head to the unemployment line, but Russell was one who felt compelled to offer a few words of support to Grosjean. “I’ve had a good relationship with George,” said the 34-year-old Frenchman “When the announcement was made that I wasn’t going to…

Nina Wedell-Wedellsborg, initiator of the prize and board member of Wessel and Vetts Foundation, explained: “This year has been a very different year for the Magasin du Nord Fashion Prize. The pair will continue their partnership at Alfa Romeo for a third season after the team confirmed that both drivers had signed new contracts for 2021, and Giovinazzi is clearly delighted by the news. “Kimi has a lot of experience and that helps a lot,” he told German news website Motorsport-Total.com. “It allows him to get the most out of the car, especially in the race. “In my eyes he continues to be one of the best – or…

From neglected segment to a major trend: a look into the history of plus-size fashion

Jill Kortleve, Ashley Graham, Jari Jones, Paloma Elsesser, Alexis Ruby. These are names of plus-size models whose popularity is intrinsically linked to inclusive fashion. From Chanel to Coach, they are the face of a trend for fashion to now accept diversity of the female body. Or is that too short-sighted? Does the clothing industry really care about the plus size fashion market? Taking stock of plus size fashion, FashionUnited delves into its history with Lauren Downing Peters. The American teacher-researcher devoted a dissertation to the ‘stoutwear’ fashion market in the early 20th century – an English term used to describe clothing intended for fuller women. Journalist Seymour Hersh on Obama, NSA and the 'Pathetic' American Media

Seymour Hersh has got some extreme ideas on how to fix journalism – close down the news bureaus of NBC and ABC, sack 90% of editors in publishing and get back to the fundamental job of journalists which, he says, is to be an outsider. It doesn’t take much to fire up Hersh, the investigative journalist who has been the nemesis of US presidents since the 1960s and who was once described by the Republican party as “the closest thing American journalism has to a terrorist”. He is angry about the timidity of journalists in America, their failure to challenge the White House and be an unpopular messenger of truth.…

US Reforms 'Open Floodgates' on Arms Exports

WASHINGTON – Earlier this week, the largest deregulation in the history of U.S. arms exports took place as part of the Barack Obama administration’s export reform initiative. But a day after the new reforms came into effect, former government officials and critics from the human rights community are warning of the serious human rights consequences and of the negative long-term impact for U.S. foreign policy. The reforms are part of the Export Control Reform Initiative (ECRI) brought forward by the Obama administration in 2010, with the goal of simplifying U.S. export practices by eliminating redundant restrictions and regulations. The most problematic aspect of the reforms is the extensive deregulation of…

Two day race weekend feels ‘a bit foreign’ to Szafnauer

Racing Point team principal Otmar Szafnauer admitted that he had mixed feelings about the shortened two-race race weekend format that was tried for the first time in the last race, the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola. The shortened timetable – which saw no Friday running and just a single 90-minute practice session on Saturday morning – was introduced to address logistical problems with tight turnarounds between events due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. With next year’s provisional calendar listing a record 23 races, logistical concerns will continue to be a big factor in 2021, and more two-day race weekends are almost certain to be part of the…

Activists Chain Themselves Together to Challenge Crisis of Immigrant Incarceration, Deportations

Immigration reform activists chained themselves outside a detention facility in Arizona on Monday continuing of a campaign of civil disobedience that calls for an end to inhumane incarceration and deportations that plague the current national immigration system. The action targeted the Corrections Corporation of American (CCA)-owned Eloy Detention Center and was part of the NotOneMoreDeportation campaign, a collaborative project of the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON). The Obama administration has deported a record number of people, and Pablo Alvarado, executive director of the NDLON, says this is a “human rights crisis.” “I know Republicans are blocking immigration reform but it’s President Obama who has the power to stop deportations,” Alvarado…
