Styrian GP Speed Trap: Who is the fastest of them all?
A lap around the Red Bull Ring is a 64-second mad dash that includes just 10 corners, but that’s all the more reason why every little bit of a car’s potential must be extracted over the 4.315km course. The track’s layout is not a power track comparable to Silverstone or Monza, but a healthy dose of engine muscle is still required to produce a good flyer. The speed trap – located at the end of the stretch between Turns 3 and 4 – placed the Mercedes-powered McLaren boys at the top of the readings with a maximum velocity of 317.8 km/h. Shovlin: Perez squashed Mercedes’ two-stop option in France
Mercedes engineering director Andrew Shovlin says the team’s opportunity to switch to a two-stop option in the French Grand Prix was sidetracked by Red Bull’s Sergio Perez. Mercedes conceded in France another defeat to its Red Bull rival which cleverly exploited a two-stop strategy that allowed Max Verstappen to beat Lewis Hamilton to the checkered flag, although just nearly. Verstappen had undercut the Briton earlier in the race, but much to Mercedes’ surprise, Red Bull opted to pit the Dutchman a second time from the lead, a decision that proved successful. After the race, there was much debate in the Brackley squad about why the team had not switched its…

FIA leaves sausage kerbs in place at Paul Ricard
FIA race director Michael Masi took note of the grievances of several team bosses over the costly impact of Paul Ricard’s sausage kerbs, but the track limit deterrents will remain in place. Paul Ricard’s sausage kerbs were a concern from the outset of Friday’s opening day of running in France, with Valtteri Bottas and Max Verstappen damaging their cars after running beyond the rumble strip and over the yellow kerbs that act as a physical limit to the track. Mercedes sporting director Ron Meadows and his Red Bull counterpart Jonathan Wheatley radioed in to race director Masi during the sessions to draw the latter’s attention to the damage, both material…
