A look at the 2019 Smackdown viewership numbers
Smackdown had a pretty good year and went from the “B” show to the “A” show when it moved to FOX in October, quickly becoming the most-watched wrestling show on television, something that Raw always held on to apart from a couple of special episodes here and there. From the first episode of 2019 to the last one, Smackdown averaged 2,168,000 viewers per week, down from the 2,350,000 viewers the show did on average over 52 weeks last year. From January to September while still on USA Network, Smackdown averaged 2,066,000 viewers but once the move to FOX occurred, that jumped to 2,475,000 viewers on average. Taking out the week…

Video: Retirement Ceremony For Jushin Liger Held At NJPW New Year’s Dash
Everyone knew it was coming, but the retirement ceremony for Jushin Liger was finally held this morning at NJPW New Year’s Dash. Liger wrestled his final two matches ever at Wrestle Kingdom 14 the preceding two nights. Liger’s career ran for almost 36 years and he’s had over 4,000 matches worldwide. He’s been the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship eleven times, and won the Jr. Heavyweight Tag Titles six times. Liger won the Best of the Super Juniors in 1992, 1994, and 2001. During his retirement ceremony, he was joined by NJPW stars including Hiroshi Tanahashi, Ryu Lee, Tiger Mask IV, Taguchi, Nagata, Juice Robinson, and Kota Ibushi. Eventually his wife…

– PWInsider reports that the producers for the last set of NWA TV tapings included Pat Kenney (aka Simon Diamond), Homicide, Crimson and Trevor Murdoch. – Pro Wrestling Sheet reports that Jeff Cobb is currently working in ROH without an exclusive contract. According to the report, his last ROH deal expired on January 1, and sources stated that Cobb did not sign a new long-term deal with the promotion. Notes On Topics Planned For Season Two of Dark Side of the Ring
PWInsider reports that Vice is currently putting together the second season of the documentary series Dark Side of the Ring. Topics includes Brawl for All, Dino Bravo and the Chris Benoit double murder-suicide. There has been talk of episodes about Herb Abrams and New Jack, but they haven’t been confirmed. Ten episodes are planned for the second season. The Benoit episode will feature Nancy Benoit’s sister Sandra Toffoloni and Benoit’s son David. AEW taped a segment before Dynamite last night paying tribute to legends of Memphis wrestling, which will air next week on AEW Dark. PWInsider reports that AEW President Tony Khan pushed for the segment to be included, as he’s a fan of the Memphis territory. He was very excited to have Lanny Poffo in the building because he was a huge fan of Randy Savage. Bill Dundee was planned for the segment at one point. The Miz to host a new show on the USA Network

The network is becoming more-and-more reliant on its WWE relationship with two Miz shows, two weekly shows and the Austin show. The new show is called “Cannonball,” hosted to Miz, Rosci Diaz and Simon Gibson. The 10-episode series begins in the summer, likely following a WWE lead-in.
