Independent Star Jason Kincaid On Wrestling AJ Styles, Possibly Signing with WWE, How He Wants to Change the World
Last week before the big weekend in Queens, NY and Melrose, MA, I had the honor of speaking to one of the talents for EVOLVE, Jason Kincaid. For those unfamiliar with his work, this interview will give you a look at Jason Kincaid, why he got started in the business, his rivalry with Chase Owens, his desire to wrestle in Japan and more. Below are some interview highlights:
How did you get into wrestling?
“As a little kid I was obsessed with wrestling, dressed in a leather jacket to school, but when I Read Mick Foley’s Have a nice day and it gave me the inspiration and confidence that I can do this.”
The first match to make you be like, ‘Wow I could do this’:
“AJ Styles vs Jason Kincaid at mega pro wrestling. Only got the match because of my buddy ended up getting sick and I got the call last minute to replace him”.
Rivalry with Chase Owens:
“I watched him wrestle as a teenager and watched him grow, we’ve wrestled around the world. I’d say we’ve watched each other develop so magic happens. I’m a Strong believer that diamonds sharpen other diamonds and that’s how it is with chase and myself.”
Evolve 97:
“Wrestling in Massachusetts for me is branching out and wrestling in front of different crowds to better your skills”.
On the importance of the Promo:
“I take much pride in my promo skills”.
On working in ROH:
“Great experience, Ring of Honor was a big deal for me because I grew up watching American Dragon, Low ki and all the originals so to be able to step in the same ring as them was special.”
Queens:
“Big match vs AR Fox, we’re both crazy innovative wrestlers so that match should be great. Just traveling and making sure I have no regrets”
On your pro wrestling goals:
“The journey more than the destination. I would you love to be on Raw and Smackdown. I’m working hard on that goal without expectations for that goal. I want to use pro wrestling as chance to change the world and I can do that with the biggest company”.
The NWA and holding a championship for 5 years:
“NWA was basically my home promotion for many years, it was cool to be champion for that long because all my favorite idols are from the old age like Bruno and had long title reigns. The whole point of the trunks and the boots if you watch the AJ Styles match is to look like the wrestlers I looked up to.”
On working in Mexico:
“First time I went down there it was because my buddy’s were doing a movie and got offered to take a 36 hour ride to Mexico, I quit my day job (laughs) and haven’t looked back since. One thing that helped me as a person and not just as a wrestler was seeing how nice everyone from Mexico was and how laid back they were.”
On Europe:

“I’m a big Johnny Saint fan I think that will show too, I’d love to wrestle in England, and Germany.”
On Japan:
“Been wanting to wrestle for Japan, Its been on the horizon but never went though. Its all about getting the Japanese promotors to understand.”
Funny stories:
“Place I trained at was a old burnt ran down venue, we had to run by this huge dog every time we wanted to get to the venue to train. I Ran back inside after getting water and started training again when I hit a snapmare on my partner, put my foot on his face (a la Eddie) and noticed he had dog poop right where I put my foot”.
Last words:
“Please go out and support independent wrestling go out and watch the magic happen.”
