Christophe Galtier on Hakim Ziyech: “I’m satisfied with the squad we had at the start of the season.”
With Lens gaining ground on PSG and transfer deadline day drama, head coach Christophe Galtier was ready to move on and get back to winning after dropping points against Reims and Rennes.
The French coach spoke about the Hakim Ziyech failed transfer after the 3-1 win against Montpellier, explaining, “For various reasons, we could not make it work with the player we targeted. I have a quality players, the young people will have their chance to play in this second part of the season. Obviously, in a busy schedule, you have to be careful with injuries and fatigue.”
One of those young people is 16-year-old goal scorer, Warren Zaïre-Emery. The French youth international was not only one of three players on PSG’s roster who are 18-years-old or younger, but his 92-minute goal earned him the record as the youngest goal scorer in PSG’s history.
Galtier continued to say, “I’m satisfied with the squad we had at the start of the season, Unfortunately, we could have reinforced it following the departure of Pablo (Sarabia). We could not do it. I believe that the responsibility does not lie with our club. That’s how it is, that’s life, we look ahead.”
Another player affected by the failed transfer was 18-year-old Ismaël Gharbi. The Spanish international could have been taking the field with Nice, but instead spent the match against Montpellier on the bench with PSG. His transfer was denied after his club failed to file his transfer in time. The delay came due to the Paris club requiring confirmation of Ziyech’s transfer from Chelsea before they would allow the 18-year-old to go depart on a season loan.

However, the PSG coach stated, with Sarabia’s departure and the long season, Gharbi may get his chance. Though young he is versatile. The club’s position on young players is improving and while depending on three players who just left the academy training ground may seem like a gamble there is always the chance that it pays off.
