Lyon trying to hijack Lorient’s pursuit of Wilson Isidor

Lyon are trying to hijack FC Lorient’s efforts to sign Lokomotiv Moscow striker Wilson Isidor (22), according to a report from L’Equipe.

Talks have already been initiated between the Russian outfit and Lorient regarding the transfer of Isidor. Although OL manager Laurent Blanc made contact with the former Monaco man, Isidor favours a return to Brittany.

The former Stade Rennais youth product would be the man most likely to replace the departing Terem Moffi. The Nigerian is Ligue 1’s second-best goalscorer with twelve strikes and is being courted by both Nice and Marseille with the sale expected to rise above the €20m mark. Isidor joined AS Monaco in 2018 as a free agent, but he somewhat lost his way at the Principality club as he was loaned to Laval (2019-2020) and Bastia-Borgo (2020-2021) to kickstart his promising career.

Having returned to Monaco at the start of the 2021-2022 season, he was overlooked by Croatian manager Niko Kovač and was looking for a way out in the January transfer window. Lokomotiv Moscow pounced and signed him for a €3.5m fee. Isidor then established himself as one of Russia’s Premier League’s most reliable strikers.

He has scored nine goals and registered five assists in twenty-four league games with the Moscow outfit since his arrival. Now, Lorient are offering the Rennes-born player a way back in Brittany, but Lyon and Strasbourg now seem to have entered the race to sign him.
