John Textor: “Doubt and negativity of Lyon fans has had an impact on the players.”

Following a 2-1 loss against Strasbourg, new Lyon owner John Textor spoke to L’Équipe about the situation the club currently find themselves in, with the supporter’s voicing their discontent at the Groupama stadium in the presence of their new American overlord.

The new American boss summarised that it was a “strange evening” on his first official visit to a match-day at the Groupama stadium. Textor then spoke about the atmosphere surrounding the club,  saying that “It is clear that the doubt and negativity of Lyon fans has had an impact on the players”.

The American also spoke with president Jean Michel Aulas, and revealed that he told him that “the situation reminds me of what I experienced in Brazil at Botafogo – It’s like in sports of skill and release, like archery: to hit your target, you have to be perfectly calm. And it’s that calm that we lacked on our chances on Saturday”.

Lyon currently sit 9th in Ligue 1, following a run of disappointing results which have led to action taken by the club’s fans who clearly voiced their disgruntlement on Saturday, involving the use of flares.
