Marseille are targeting multiple positions for signings this summer
As reported by L’Équipe, Marseille are looking to strengthen their squad in a variety of positions during this summer’s transfer window after qualifying for the Champions League group stages on a dramatic final day of Ligue 1 action.
Club president Pablo Longoria and his assistants recently returned from a trip to Boston to meet with OM owner Franck McCourt where a three-year plan for the club was discussed as well as summer transfer plans. Despite the DNCG, French football’s financial watchdog, looking at the club’s wage bill, Longoria is expected to be able to recruit players without having to sell others initially, although this will likely be the plan at some stage this off-season, say the paper.
Following the departure of Boubacar Kamara to Aston Villa, Marseille will be looking for a replacement at the base of midfield as a priority as well as an attacking midfielder, a winger and a versatile full-back while central defence will likely need a major overhaul with experienced players likely to be the focus with the Champions League on the horizon.
However, Marseille will have to be clever in their dealings with a two-window transfer ban hanging over the club following the signing of Pape Gueye. Their case will be considered in October by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
