Tottenham 0-2 Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp reveals what Pep Guardiola told him on phone call following Champions League triumph
Jurgen Klopp has revealed Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was one of the first to congratulate him following Liverpool’s Champions League final victory.
Klopp’s men were crowned champions of Europe for the sixth time after beating Tottenham 2-0 in Madrid
A penalty from Mohamed Salah and a late Divock Origi strike sealed a historic victory for the Reds and gave Klopp his first trophy with the Anfield club.
And amidst the wild celebrations inside the Wanda Metropolitano, Klopp received a phone call from Guardiola congratulating him on his European triumph.
“A second ago I spoke to Pep Guardiola on the phone,” Klopp said in his post-match conference. “Our head physio worked for Manchester City at the start of the year but he wanted to win the Champions League… no, it’s a joke!”
“We promised each other that we will kick each other’s butts again next season,” he added. “We will go for everything and see what we get.
“Getting 97 points in the Premier League and winning the Champions League is an unbelievable long way to go and we did it. That’s incredible.
“Now we’ve won something, we will carry on. We will win things. That is big. I am really happy.”
Klopp couldn’t bottle up his emotions in the aftermath of his side’s victory, claiming it may well be the best night of his life.
The German also hit back at his side’s critics and sang a version of Salt-N-Pepa’s classic song Let’s Talk About Sex.
“There are always a couple of people who can tell you ‘yeah but they didn’t win’”, he said in an interview with Norwegian TV channel Via Sport.
“So now, let’s talk about six baby. Let’s talk about you and me. Let’s talk about all the good things and the bad things that may be. Let’s talk about six.”
