Liverpool now equal with Manchester United as English football’s most decorated club after Champions League victory
Liverpool are now equal with Manchester United as English football’s most decorated club following their Champions League triumph.
Jurgen Klopp’s men were crowned champions of Europe for the sixth time after beating Tottenham 2-0 in Madrid.
A penalty from Mohamed Salah and a late Divock Origi strike sealed a historic victory for the Reds and gave Klopp his first trophy with the Anfield club.
The victory also bears significant consequences for English football too, as the Merseyside outfit now have equalled their bitter rivals Man United’s trophy haul.
Both clubs have now racked up 42 major honours, with the Old Trafford club winning two more league titles than Liverpool but with three Champions League titles less than the Reds.
*Major honours counted as season-long competitions (Charity/Community Shield and UEFA Sup Cup not included), and no one-off competitions tallied towards total. European trophies include: European Cup/Champions League, Cup Winners’ Cup, UEFA Cup/Europa League and Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. Only top flight league titles are counted as major honours.
Meanwhile, Klopp couldn’t bottle up his emotions in the aftermath of his side’s victory, claiming it may well be the best night of his life.
The German also hit back at his side’s critics and sang a version of Salt-N-Pepa’s classic song Let’s Talk About Sex.
“There are always a couple of people who can tell you ‘yeah but they didn’t win’”, he said in an interview with Norwegian TV channel Via Sport.
“So now, let’s talk about six baby. Let’s talk about you and me. Let’s talk about all the good things and the bad things that may be. Let’s talk about six.”
