David Silva: Manchester City midfielder to LEAVE Etihad at end of next season after wildly successful decade

David Silva will leave Manchester City at the end of next season after a decade at the club, the Spain midfielder has confirmed.

The 33-year-old has made a total 396 appearances since moving to the Etihad Stadium in 2010, but the 2019/20 campaign looks set to be his final for the club.

Silva, who has won four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and four League Cups during his time at City, featured in 33 league games last season as Pep Guardiola’s side retained their crown as part of a domestic treble.

The 33-year-old, who has also lifted two European Championships and the World Cup with his country, moved to City from Valencia.

He has established himself as a firm fan favourite since then, hitting 71 goals, including the opener in May’s 6-0 FA Cup final thrashing of Watford.

But now he has set a date for when he will depart the club, telling reporters at a press conference in Gran Canaria that reaching a decade seems like the right time to call it a day.

“No, this is the last one,” he replied when asked if he could stay beyond next season. “10 years for me is enough. It’s the perfect time for me.

David Silva's Man City career

Silva joined City from Valencia in 2010, and he's gone on to enjoy a remarkably successful stay in Manchester

  • Appearances – 396
  • Goals – 71
  • Assists – 129
  • Club honours – Premier League (x4), FA Cup (x2), EFL Cup (x4), Community Shield
  • Individual honours – PFA Team of the Year (x2), Man City Players’ Player of the Year, Man City Player of the Season, Man City Player of the Month (x9)

“Initially, City were talking about two years, but I decided to sign another one, so I finished at 10 years.

“It completes the cycle. It’s a nice round figure. I can never see myself playing against City for another team. So 10 years – that’s it.”

Widely regarded as one of the Premier League’s best ever foreign players, Silva has been lauded during his time in English football.

Twice he has been named in the PFA Team of the Year, with the Man City players and fans also voting him the club’s best player for the 2011/12 and 2016/17 seasons respectively.

Tributes have been paid to the 33-year-old since he announced his decision to quit City, with talkSPORT’s Ally McCoist admitting the Premier League will be worse once Silva has left.
