Ruben Loftus-Cheek latest: Chelsea man walks for first time without protective boot as he continues recovery from Achilles injury

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has handed Chelsea yet more good news as he walked without a protective boot for the first time since suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon.

On the same day that the Blues officially unveiled Frank Lampard as their new manager, Loftus-Cheek, literally, took a major step in his recovery from injury.

The midfielder sustained the untimely blow in a friendly against New England Revolution and left the stadium on crutches back in May.

Documenting his progress, Loftus-Cheek shared a video on social media as he walked unaided inside Chelsea’s training ground.

In another clip, the 23-year-old can be seen trying to use a leg press machine and jokingly acknowledges his difficulty in trying to shift the relatively light weight. “Never thought I’d struggle pushing 5kg” he said.

The England international is reportedly close to agreeing a new deal with the club, with Chelsea keen to extend the remaining two years left on his current contract.
