Lille president Gerard Lopez has confirmed talks between Liverpool and star winger Nicolas Pepe.

The Ivorian, currently on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations, has become one of the hottest properties in Europe after a stunning season in Ligue 1.

There have been conflicting reports regarding Liverpool’s interest in the 24-year-old, but it has now emerged that the club have already spoken to the winger.

Lopez told RMC Sport: “I know there have been discussions with the player, not with us as a club, Liverpool has players in those positions, and I read that maybe there were players who could leave, or not.

“I am not particularly focused on Liverpool. But it is true that there have been discussions with agents.”

The French club have confirmed Pepe will leave this summer and they reportedly want £70million for his signature.

Lopez added: “We had two offers before the Africa Cup of Nations.

“We’ll see after that, my position was to see if we could not do something before it, we had two proposals before it, I had two clubs.”
