How much money every Premier League club has spent so far this transfer window
Summer transfer windows are never quiet in the Premier League.
This year we’ve already seen several transfer fees of over £40million as clubs do their business ahead of the August 8 deadline.
One interesting change, though, is the teams doing the buying.
Liverpool and Arsenal are yet to trouble their accountants too much with their dealings, while Southampton, Aston Villa, and Leicester City have all been busy.
Tottenham too have awoken from their slumber, splurging on French midfield ace Tanguy Ndombele.
But who has spent what so far? talkSPORT.com take a look at the figures.
Arsenal – £6million
For Gunners fans, this upcoming season has the potential to be a stressful one with Unai Emery’s side only making one move so far.
Their window has been on open lock for a plethora of positions this summer, but all of their current known targets aren’t close to having deals confirmed.
Young Brazilian striker Gabriel Martinelli has joined for £6m but it seems Arsenal are being priced out of moves for Wilfried Zaha and Ryan Fraser.
William Saliba could join, and immediately return to Saint-Etienne on loan, but rivals Tottenham Hotspur could be about to hijack that £27m deal.
Aston Villa – £83million
Believe it or not, Aston Villa are the front-runners in this current transfer window with the newly-promoted side closing in on spending £100m.
Signings so far include Tyrone Mings (£20m), Ezri Konsa (£12m), Matt Targett (£15m), Jota (£4m) and Wesley Moraes (£22m).
Aston Villa will be aware of what happened to Fulham last year, who spent close to £150m in the 2018 summer window, where it didn’t turn out well for the Cottagers.
They spent big, brought in vast amounts of new players, and got relegated that season – something Villa boss Dean Smith will not want to happen to him and his team.
Bournemouth – £17million
So far this transfer window, Eddie Howe’s Cherries have signed two players – both from the Football League.
Left-back Lloyd Kelly, who can also play as a centre-back, signed for £13m from Championship side Bristol City, while fellow defender Jack Stacey joins rom Luton Town, in a deal worth £4m.
Kelly will add strength to the Cherries’s defence, who leaked goals throughout last season but will also add to the goals going forward with his direct play style on the left hand side.
Brighton & Hove Albion – £20million
After a season of struggles, the South coast side parted ways with manager Chris Hughton.
Former Swansea boss Graham Potter is in the hot-seat at the Amex now, and has made two signings so far.
Matthew Clarke has joined the Seagulls after an impressive season in League One with Portsmouth, with the fee estimated to be £5m.
The other signing is Belgian winger Leandro Trossard from Genk in the Belgian Pro League, he is believed to have cost £15m but and the club is hopeful he can prove his worth and deliver what manager Potter wants ahead of another gruelling season in the Premier League.
Burnley – £11million
Manager Sean Dyche has brought in three new arrivals so far in the summer, including former Southampton and West Brom striker Jay Rodriguez for £10m from the latter.
He is a player that is sure to add goals and variety of them in the Burnley team, adding finesse to the powerful strike force of Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood.
The first £5m of the deal will be paid now and a further £5m next summer.
Another signing is dutch defender Erik Pieters from Stoke, for a small fee of £1m. Stoke like Burnley are a team happy to defend so there is no doubt he will be already suited to Dyche’s way of playing.
Their third signing is youngster Joel Senior from non-league side Curzon Ashton who signs on a season-long deal with the option of a year extension – he is expected to join up with the academy side.
Chelsea – £40million
Unfortunately for Chelsea fans, this transfer window was always going to be a case of more players leaving than coming to the club – purely because of a transfer ban they were hit with.
The reason it says £40m above, rather than £0, is due to the signing of Mateo Kovacic from Real Madrid as part of a clause in the player’s contract when he was on loan at the Blues last season.
The Croatian international was still classed as a Chelsea player until the start of July meaning they could exercise their option to buy the player.
Crystal Palace – £0
Crystal Palace are yet to spend in the transfer market this summer.
Their moves in the market will likely be shaped by the future of Wilfried Zaha who has been rumoured with a move to Arsenal, while they have already sold Aaron Wan-Bisska for £50m.
Manager Roy Hodgson, whether he likes the idea or not, must be preparing for life without Zaha next season – a player who Palace were dependant on at times last season.
The Eagles have, though, seen one name come through the door at Selhurst Park, with 31-year old goalkeeper Stephen Henderson signing on a free transfer from Nottingham Forest.
Everton – £32million
Everton have landed three players so far this summer – one of these being Portuguese midfielder Andre Gomes, who spent last season on loan in Merseyside.
The 25-year-old signed for £22m from Spanish champions Barcelona after impressing manager Marco Silva in his loan spell.
The Toffees have also landed Fabian Delph from Manchester City in a deal worth which could be worth up to £10million.
Earlier on in the window, Danish goalkeeper Jonas Lossl signed from relegated Huddersfield on a free transfer as back-up and competition for their no.1 Jordan Pickford.
The Dane had an impressive first season in the Premier League but struggled to find his form in 2018/19 as the Terriers were demoted to the Championship.
Leicester City – £76.5million
Since Brendan Rodgers’ arrival from Celtic as manager, Leicester look as if they are ready to really push for a European place next season, which is reflected in their transfer business so far this summer.
The former Liverpool boss has signed Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans on a permanent deal from Monaco, for a club-record £40m, having fended off interest from Manchester United to get the deal over the line.
Tielemans spent the back end of the 2018/19 season on loan with the Foxes, making 13 appearances in the Premier League, scoring three goals and assisting five.
On top of this, Rodgers spent big again to acquire the services of Spanish forward Ayoze Perez from Newcastle for £30m.
Perez endured his most prolific season in the Premier League last time out, scoring 12 goals in 37 games under Rafa Benitez, including an impressive hat-trick in a 3-1 win against a struggling Southampton.
Another player who has joined Tielemans and Perez as the new kids on the block is James Justin from newly-promoted Championship side, Luton Town for an undisclosed fee thought to be £6m.
The 21-year old right-back impressed in League One last season and could be one for the future under a manager who has a reputation for developing young British players.
Liverpool – £1.3million
Liverpool began their summer by winning the Champions League in Madrid against Tottenham but since then the Reds have been relatively quiet.
Fans were treated to a handful of quality big-money signings last season with the arrival of Fabinho from Monaco, Alisson from Roma, and Naby Keita from RB Leipzig.
But so far in this window Jurgen Klopp has only made one new signing with Sepp van den Berg joining from PEC Zwolle in the Dutch Eredivisie for £1.3m – at just 17, Van den Berg is considered to be one for the future as Klopp aims at developing the dutch defender.
Manchester City – £75.3million
Even though they dominated the domestic scene last year winning the treble – FA Cup, League Cup and Premier League title, Pep Guardiola has still dipped into the transfer kitty to bolster his squad for this coming season.
It seems hard to believe adding depth to the Manchester City squad is possible but the signing of Rodri from Atletico Madrid, for a club-record £68.2m, shows they are preparing for the end of Fernandinho’s era at the Etihad Stadium.
With Benjamin Mendy hardly featuring last season Manchester City have been forced to think about back-up options in the left-back position with Oleksandr Zinchenko playing out of position in defence their most of last season, as well as Aymeric Laporte and Fabian Delph.
With Delph heading to Everton in the coming days, Guardiola has activated City’s clause to re-sign Spanish defender Angelino from PSV Eindhoven.
The 22-year-old left City last summer and played every game for PSV last season in the Eredivisie as they finished second behind Ajax – he was also named in the Dutch division’s Team of the Season.
Manchester City signed the Spaniard back for £5.3m, a steal in today’s market, meanwhile, they have also completed their deal to sign United States international Zack Steffen for around £7m.
Manchester United – £65million
The Red Devils appear to be willing to spend big this summer with a centre-back almost certainly joining for a large sum, while two young talents have already been acquired.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side landed England Under-21 right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka for £50m from Crystal Palace, a transfer anticipated since January, with Manchester United struggling defensively and needing to replace Antonio Valencia.
Wan-Bissaka was the most consistent right-back in the Premier League last season, with only six players successfully passing him all season – one who didn’t succeed was Real Madrid signing Eden Hazard.
The Red Devils’ other signing, so far, is Daniel James from Championship side Swansea for £15m. The 21-year old winger impressed at the Welsh side, scoring against Manchester City in the FA Cup as well as getting another four in the Championship, and nine assists.
Newcastle United – £0
Newcastle United’s first signing of the window will be in the dugout rather than on the pitch as they search for a replacement for Rafa Benitez who has taken a job in China after failing to come to terms with a new contract with the Magpies.
The likely candidate to take on the role is current Sheffield Wednesday manager Steve Bruce, who has plenty of experience managing in the top flight, but Wednesday are holding out for a fee higher than the £1m offered so far by Newcastle United.
With Rafa going, Newcastle may find it hard to attract players to the club, but it has already started to have an adverse effect as some players have already found a route out of the club and moved elsewhere.
The most noteworthy loss is Spaniard Ayoze Perez who has joined Leicester City in a £30m move.
Norwich City – £3.65m
Last season’s Championship title winners have been much more selective in their transfer deals so far.
The Canaries prepare for their first season back in the top flight since being relegated in 2016 and have done some sensible business.
Perhaps their two most impressive signings so far come from Germany with Schalke keeper Ralf Fahrmann joining on a season-long loan, with a fee of almost £3m, while Josip Drmic joins on a free from Borussia Monchengladbach.
Fahrmann has vast amounts of experience in the Bundesliga and Champions League, while Drmic is a Switzerland international who has played at two World Cups.
Other signings who have joined are Daniel Adshead from Rochdale and midfielder Aidan Fitzpatrick from Scottish outfit Partick Thistle, for a combined £650,000.
Sheffield United – £11million
The Blades nabbed the second automatic promotion spot to the Premier League last season and will be looking to add to their squad in an attempt to remain in the top flight.
So far, they have signed former player Phil Jagielka from Everton, with the central defender offering bags of experience going into the campaign, especially with the majority of their squad having never playing in the Premier League before.
Central midfielder Luke Freeman also head to Bramall Lane, signed from Queens Park Rangers for an undisclosed fee.
Freeman was once on the books at Arsenal player having joined them aged 15 in a £1.5m move from Gillingham.
The attacking midfielder scored nine goals at QPR last season in the Championship as well as assisting eight.
And Ireland international Callum Robinson completes their trio of signings at this point in time, joining for a club-record fee – thought to be £7m.
Southampton – £49million
Ralf Hasenhuttl has wasted no time in his first full transfer window in adding to a Saints squad that struggled in last season’s Premier League campaign with a constant threat of relegation emerging over their shoulder.
He has brought in two new attacking players – Che Adams and Moussa Djenepo – while he has also signed Danny Ings permanently thanks to the Saints’ obligation to buy at the end of his loan spell.
Ings finished as Southampton’s top scorer with eight goals and a further three assists last season, despite injury issues, but now has extra power next to him in Adams.
The young attacker, who signed for £15m, is versatile enough to play on either wing or through the middle, adding pace to the squad.
Djenepo is a 21-year old winger who signed from Belgian side Standard Liege for £14m, a true wideman, who prefers playing on the left-hand side, he’s a real threat when dribbling towards the area.
Tottenham Hotspur – £62.3million
It has been rare for Spurs to spend money in recent transfer windows.
Now, after reaching the Champions League final last season, Mauricio Pochettino is adding to his squad to ensure they are equipped for a challenge in the 2019/20 season.
Tottenham made two signings in one day this summer, the first being Jack Clarke from Leeds for £8.5m, closely followed by the club-record signing of Frenchman Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon for £53.8m.
The signing of 22-year old Ndombele emphasises a huge intent from the club for next season, with many tipping Spurs as being silverware contenders again.
Clarke, meanwhile, joins after an exciting breakthrough season at Leeds United in the Championship, where the 18-year old made 22 appearances under Marcelo Bielsa’s promotion chasers.
He has, though, gone straight back to his former club on loan.
Watford – £5million
The Hornets are another of the mid-table finishers who are yet to make any real impact in the transfer market this time round, only making one new signing in the shape of West Brom defender Craig Dawson.

The 29-year old, signed for £5m, has previous experience in the Premier League with the Baggies. He made 153 top-flight appearances for West Brom, which will help shore up a Watford defence which leaked goals last season.
Manager Javi Gracia will be hoping to build on a season that saw the Hornets finish 11th and reach the FA Cup final.
West Ham United – £24million
The Hammers have welcomed two Spaniards to their squad ahead of the 2019/20 Premier League season in the form of Pablo Fornals and Roberto from Villarreal and Espanyol respectively.
International ace Fornals joins for a fee of £24m having contributed to five goals (scoring three and picking up two assists) in 35 games in LaLiga, although it was his 2016/17 campaign which really caught the eye.
Roberto, meanwhile, is an experienced goalkeeper at 33-years-old, and will provide competition for Polish international and current number one, Lukasz Fabianski and provide a good second keeper throughout the domestic competitions.
Another goalkeeper, David Martin, has also joined on a free transfer to offer extra cover between the sticks.
Wolverhampton Wanderers – £45million
Wolves enjoyed a memorable first season back in the Premier League as they finished in seventh and earned themselves a place in the Europa League qualifiers, entering in the second phase.
For a team who had just been promoted, they had a squad who merited their top ten finish, with players such as Ruben Neves, captain Conor Coady and goalkeeper Rui Patricio instrumental to their success.
Another star who worked wonders for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side was Mexican forward Raul Jimenez who spent last season on-loan at Mollineux from Benfica.
He has been so much of a success Wolves decided to break the bank to sign him on a permanent deal.
The Mexican forward scored 13 goals in 38 Premier League appearances and has now signed for £31m, a club-record.
Another recruit who has now moved to Wolves on a permanent basis is Belgian international Leander Dendoncker. He joins from Anderlecht in a deal worth £12m.
Like Jimenez, the 24-year old spent last season playing under Espirito Santo, and is the sort of versatile player needed in any team; playing either as a central defender in a back-three, or a little higher in the midfield as a sweeping powerhouse.
