Paul Pogba: Paul Ince blasts Manchester United midfielder for ‘stupid’ red card in Paris Saint-Germain clash

Paul Pogba was ‘stupid’ to get himself sent off in Manchester United’s Champions League defeat by PSG – with the midfielder now ruled out the second leg.

Pogba, the France international, was dismissed on Tuesday evening for two bookable offences, the second of which came in the final minute of normal time for a knee-high challenge on Dani Alves.

It was Pogba’s first red card of the season, and ended a remarkable run of form the 25-year-old has been enjoying since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho as United’s manager.

He has been the Red Devils’ best player under Solskjaer, scoring eight goals and creating a further five in just 10 appearances – but he was shown up on Tuesday by a truly tremendous PSG.

Pogba never got going as the Ligue 1 club triumphed at Old Trafford, with Marquinhos performing excellently in the middle of the park to make the Frenchman nothing more than a passenger.

And, in the end, Pogba’s frustrations got the better of him and led to a petulant first-half booking before he was shown a well-deserved second yellow card.

Old Trafford legend Paul Ince has now come out to blast Pogba for his actions, calling the midfielder ‘stupid’ while speaking to news.paddypower.com.

“Paul Pogba really let himself down against PSG,” Ince said. “Just when he’s won the fans over, and he’s doing everything you expect of a top player, he goes and behaves like that.

“I know it’s because he was frustrated at the game, but also it’s because Marquinhos was too good for him, he did a real job on him.

“The first yellow card he got was pure petulance – and the second challenge should’ve been a straight red anyway.

“I’d say other teams will be taking notes, knowing they too can mark Pogba out of the game. And just like that, he’s out of the second leg.

“It’s stupid behaviour. He’s been a talisman under Ole, and to lose him for that game is beyond disappointing.”
