MLB trade rumors: Twins eyeing Madison Bumgarner, Noah Syndergaard, other arms, report says | Sporting News

The Twins, who already have the bats to make some noise in the postseason, are reportedly working to add a marquee pitcher to help the staff.

MLB Network reported Friday that the Twins had a “top talent evaluator” in San Francisco on Thursday to watch the Giants’ Madison Bumgarner face Noah Syndergaard of the Mets. (Both pitchers fared well in the 16-inning marathon, with Bumgarner allowing one earned run in nine innings and Syndergaard giving up one through seven.)

Beyond that, MLB Network reported the Twins are also looking at the Giants relievers, as well as Tigers starter Matthew Boyd and closer Shane Greene.

Obviously, the Twins will face competition from other suitors for most of those aforementioned hurlers leading up to the MLB trade deadline. And they’re not dealing out of desperation, already boasting a 1-2 rotation punch of Jose Berrios, an All-Star the past two seasons, and Jake Odorizzi, an All-Star this season.

But adding another marquee arm makes the Twins even more dangerous down the stretch and in a postseason series. The Twins starters already rank fourth in MLB with a 3.71 ERA.
