Manchester United news: Nemanja Matic says Red Devils lack experience to win titles
Nemanja Matic has urged Manchester United fans to be patient after admitting the Red Devils have quality, but not experience within their squad.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been keen to integrate youngsters into the first-team fold as he seeks to stamp his mark on the team he inherited from Jose Mourinho last December.
This summer, the Norwegian has already added Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James, while the likes Tahith Chong, Angel Gomes and Mason Greenwood have impressed in pre-season.
But Matic, the former Chelsea midfielder, believes talent alone is not enough to win titles.
“Quality and experience bring you the title. In this squad we have quality and no experience,” Matic told Goal.com.
“We have five or six top players, but they are still young like Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial. They have shown their quality on the pitch but they are too young to lead the team of course.
“Mason Greenwood, great potential. United have a project and know what they want with players of the future.
“But you need to give them time because, at 17, you cannot play the same like you are 26 or 27.
“Football always wants results but the fans need to be patient so they can improve. In the future I am sure these players will take United back where they belong.
Leicester defender Harry Maguire has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for most of the summer, but the clubs are yet to agree a fee.
The 26-year-old is valued at £80m by the 2015/16 Premier League champions and the Foxes will not budge, insisting they are under no pressure to sell, so this could be a saga that continues to the very end of the window – which closes in two weeks.
The Red Devils have pursued Maguire for the past 12 months since he shone at the World Cup, with the player himself revealing he would be keen to join.
