Chelsea news: Frank Lampard urges fans to ditch offensive West Ham chant following Reading victory

Frank Lampard has pleaded with Chelsea fans to stop singing a chant which refers to West Ham supporters as ‘pikeys’.

The new Blues boss was serenaded by the travelling fans during Chelsea’s pre-season victory over Reading at the Madejski Stadium on Sunday.

Besides the famous ‘Super Frank’ chant, Blues fans also have a song for Lampard which contains a derogatory reference to the travelling community.

It celebrates his record-breaking 211 goals for the club and aims a dig at the Hammers, who sold him to Chelsea in 2001.

“I didn’t hear the song in question and of course, if there’s a song in the modern day or any day that has offensive words, I don’t want to hear that,” Lampard said.

“That’s me saying that as a big Chelsea man who really appreciates the support.

“We don’t want songs with offensive words. If the fans could sing other songs, then I’ll back that.

“The club are very clear with the work we do off the pitch about anything that’s offensive or prejudiced and we’ve made a big mark on that in modern years.”

On the pitch, Mason Mount impressed once again with two goals as Chelsea edged past Reading 4-3 in a thrilling friendly.

Ross Barkley caught the eye once more, netting a sublime free-kick, to make it two goals in as many games following his strike against Barcelona.

Kenedy, a forgotten man at Stamford Bridge, was also among the goals, while Josh Barrett, Michael Morrison and Sam Baldock netted for the Royals.
