Harry Maguire transfer fee would be a ‘great deal’ for Manchester United and Leicester, talkSPORT told
Former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson believes a £80million would be a ‘great deal’ for all parties involved in the Harry Maguire transfer saga.
talkSPORT understands that Man United have lodged a take it or leave it offer for the England international.
Should the deal materialise, the fee would make Maguire the most expensive defender in world football, surpassing the £75m Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk in 2018.
And Johnson, who won the Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup during a 16-year career, senses the transfer will get completed before the 5pm deadline on August 8.
“If United have come calling again they know Maguire wants to go,” Johnson told Jim White on talkSPORT.
“As long as Maguire gets that message through to Leicester then I’m sure that deal will happen.
Sam Allardyce says Harry Maguire is similar to Virgil van Dijk
“To be honest if I’m Leicester I would take £80million now anyway. I think it’s a great deal for everyone, so I can’t see why it won’t happen.”
Johnson also hailed the improvements the 26-year-old has made since playing for Sheffield United and Hull, especially since joining the Foxes in June 2017.
He added: “He’s improved drastically. When he first broke onto the scene due to his size and certain other things he looked a bit clumsy.
“But I think he’s matured and learnt the game over the last few years and he’s come on really well.”
