Chris Archer injury update: Pirates starter leaves after warmup pitch before second inning | Sporting News

This doesn’t look great for the Pirates and Chris Archer.

After throwing a scoreless first inning, Archer came out to warm up for the second in a matchup with the Nationals. He then had a pitch sail high on him and immediately knew something was wrong.

The righty walked down the mound toward catcher Jacob Stallings and was soon removed from the game.

The Pirates later announced he left the game with right shoulder discomfort.

Archer, 30, is 3-9 with a 5.23 ERA this season with 141 strikeouts in 118 2/3 innings pitched.

He already missed a couple of weeks in April as he was dealing with thumb inflammation.

The righty came over to the Pirates in a trade with the Rays in 2018.

Pittsburgh gave up righty Tyler Glasnow, outfielder Austin Meadows and prospect Shane Baz in the deal.
