Liverpool ‘on the verge’ of agreeing record-breaking new kit deal with Nike
Liverpool are reportedly ‘on the verge’ of signing a record-breaking kit deal with Nike.
The Reds’ current kit deal with New Balance expires at the end of the season and Anfield chiefs have been exploring their options as they seek to capitalise on their growth on and off the pitch.
The club’s recent triumph in Europe and progression into Premier League title contenders makes them an exciting proposition for potential suitors.
The deal with New Balance is believed to be £45m-a-year but Liverpool are aiming to secure a deal worth at least £75m-a-year, surpassing Man United‘s current sponsorship deal with Adidas.
In March it was reported Liverpool were in ‘advanced talks’ with Nike – but Adidas were also believed to be interested signing with the club.
Forbes now claim the club “is on the verge of signing a new kit deal with Nike that would begin with the 2020/21 season and could be the richest in the Premier League.”
Four months ago it was stressed that Liverpool were ‘not yet close to striking an agreement,’ but this would indicate that there has been a major step forward in talks.
Nike’s biggest commercial kit deal to date is with LaLiga giants Barcelona, which sees them earn £1bn over 10 years, while their largest with an English club is a £900m, 15-year agreement with Chelsea.
New Balance have priority should they wish to agree an extension with the club, but the company would need to match the offer of any prospective successor.
