Alexis Sanchez at Manchester United ‘was an absolute disaster and total waste of money’, says Ally McCoist
Alexis Sanchez’s 18-month spell at Manchester United has been branded ‘an absolute disaster’ and ‘an expensive waste of money’ by football legend Ally McCoist.
After weeks of speculation, the Chile forward has finally left Old Trafford having completed his loan move to Inter Milan on Thursday.
Yet despite getting the 30-year-old flop out of the club, he reportedly remains United’s second highest-paid player as they still have to cover around £6million of his wages.
He moves to Italy with the hope of recovering some of the form which made United want to sign him from Arsenal in the first place. United will be hoping that too, as there is no option to buy in his loan deal, meaning he is due to return to Old Trafford at the end of the season.

For McCoist, though, Manchester United would have been better off ending his nightmare spell at the club for good.
Asked if he’s ever seen a more disastrous transfer, the former Rangers and Scotland striker said on Friday’s Sports Breakfast: “No!
“When you talk about the finance and the amount of money involved, it’s just been an absolute disaster.
“He’s completely lost his way. What an expensive waste of money.

“I think it’s a good thing that has happened; he has to get playing again and he has to try and find himself, because he’s clearly completely and utterly lost his way.
“But I think the best thing that could have happened was a permanent move somewhere.
“He just looks completely lost.
“Money aside, for his own sanity he’s got to go to Inter Milan, play and do what he does best which is create and score goals.
“He’s clearly got a loss of confidence and you’d like to think he will go to Inter Milan, play and start enjoying himself again, because he is a talent.”
Ally also believes Sanchez’s incredible salary and lack of performances on the pitch are likely to have created a rift in the United dressing room, which has led to his exit this summer.
The Scot’s comments come amid reports that Jose Mourinho allegedly tried to ‘provoke a reaction’ from the Chilean by bringing up his huge £500,000-a-week wages in front of his team-mates during his time as manager.
“No matter who you are, you’ve got to earn your wages,” Ally added.
“Something like that could cause harm within the dressing room. The fact is, he should be one of your best players but he hasn’t shown it.
“Somebody of his ability not being able to get into that Man United team, it’s is beyond me.
“Something must have happened.”
