Arsenal and Met Police confirm nothing sinister happened after car sparks brief panic outside Emirates before Crystal Palace clash

Arsenal have confirmed nothing sinister occurred after a car sparked brief panic by driving through road closures outside the Emirates Stadium.

An area near the Armoury was evacuated and police were summoned after a blue Nissan appeared to be driving erratically near crowds of people arriving for the Crystal Palace fixture.

Despite reports that the vehicle had ‘driven at football fans’, an Arsenal spokesman quickly confirmed this was not the case and the situation had been stood down.

The driver, a 23-year-old male, was questioned by police and arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle while unfit and driving without due care and attention.

The Gunners’ clash with Palace, which kicks-off at 4.30pm, has gone ahead as planned.

A Met Police statement on the incident read: “At approximately 15:15 hours Police were called to Queensland Road, N7 where a vehicle had driven through a road closure which was in place for today’s match at the Emirates Stadium.

“The driver exited the vehicle and went to the Box Office to collect tickets where he was detained by Police.

“There are no reports of any casualties and the driver of the vehicle, a 23-year-old male, has been arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle while unfit and driving without due care and attention.

“The matter is not being treated as terrorist-related.”
