Now that the catwalk
season is over, a trend in men’s accessories has emerged. Fashion
businesses are keen to have a slice of the menswear pie, which according to
Mintel is worth 12.9 billion pounds. By 2018 that figure is expected to
soar 18 percent to 16.4 billion pounds.

Men’s accessories, therefore, are increasingly becoming more important
product categories for many brands, although it still lags behind the
women’s market, which is worth nearly 30 billion pounds.

For spring 2016, men’s accessories take on a subtle flamboyance. Scarves
and belts are styled long while hats have a new sartorial feel. Backpacks
remain key and are kept classic with updates in material, colour and
embellishment. Sunglasses are square and bold with an experimental, bold
approac.

For fashion customers, the straw fedora is a key high summer commercial
shape. Classic sartorial looks are mixed with styles such as the bowler and
boater from more directional brands.

The chain pendant is also key item for SS16, one that will be an entry
price-point for many high street brands. Pendants include a range of motifs
including tools, letters, symbols and abstract shapes, gold finishes are
popular for youthful styling.

Canvas belts are a casual alternative to the leather belt this season,
featuring classic pared-down buckles. Styled to hang low, this item is
accentuated by a renewed focus on the waist in men’s trousers.

Scarves remain an important item for men next spring, as seen at Gucci and
Burberry. Styles merge two of autumn’s trends – the overlong and the skinny
– into one. Soft plain fabrics and decorative and printed designs are key.
