Crystal Palace vs Liverpool predicted teams: Jurgen Klopp to make late calls on Salah and Robertson – but Van Dijk ‘100% available’

Liverpool return to the scene of one of their most painful Premier League memories on Saturday when they take on Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Whilst gunning for the title in 2014, Brendan Rodgers’ side cruised into a comfortable 3-0 lead at Selhurst Park. However, they capitulated under pressure and Manchester City pounced.

Having annihilated the reigning champions prior to the international break, Jurgen Klopp and his men can exorcise yet more demons this weekend in south London and potentially extend their lead at the top of the table.

Standing in their way are Roy Hodgson’s Eagles, who have been grounded somewhat are a series of chastening defeats.

Hodgson has failed to beat Liverpool since taking over at Palace, although did push Klopp’s men close on two occasions last season.

This match ends a horror set of fixtures which captain Luka Milivojevic described as a ‘mini-Champions League’ run.

While the south Londoners have only picked up one point from the games against City, Arsenal, Leicester and Chelsea, they are hoping to conclude it on a high point.

Wilfried Zaha is a concern for the Eagles after picking up a foot injury during the defeat to Chelsea prior to the international break.

Joel Ward limped off in that game with a groin complaint and will also undergo a late fitness test.

Influential centre-back Virgil Van Dijk is available for the trip to Selhurst Park after missing the Netherlands’ Euro 2020 qualifier against Estonia for personal reasons but doubts still persist about the fitness of Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson.

Both are struggling with ankle injuries – Salah since sustaining the problem against Leicester in October – and Klopp will have to make a late decision on the pair.

“In the moment, yes, Virgil is 100 per cent available. It’s the time of the year where people drop out of the squad overnight with other things like illness,” added Klopp.

“For the others, I cannot say 100 per cent. Today is a very important session to judge that especially with the players who came back late.

“Fabinho, Bobby (Roberto Firmino) and Ali (Alisson Becker) played on Tuesday, Gini Wijnaldum played on Tuesday, we have these players where we need to have a look how they react and what makes sense for them or not.

“(Salah) has trained the whole time he has been here (during the international break) but only the things we have wanted him to do.

“It’s not that it has got worse but it’s still kind of there, that’s the problem.

“We have to be sensible with things like this. We have to make a decision.”
