3,000-Kg Garbage Collected From Mt Everest As Nepal’s Clean-Up Campaign Gathers Momentum

World’s highest mountain, Mt Everest is reeling under tonnes of plastic and organic waste, that has been lying there for decades, mostly left behind by mountaineers who climb up the peak. The garbage that has collected over the years on the peak has turned the mighty peak into the world’s highest landfill.

Acting on the ticking time bomb, Nepal has collected more than 3,000 kilograms of solid waste from Mt Everest since April 14. Nepal launched this ambitious campaign aimed at bringing back tonnes of trash.

The 45-day ‘Everest Cleaning Campaign’, led by Solukhumbu district’s Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality began on April 14 with the Nepali new year and aims to collect nearly 10,000 kilogrammes of garbage from Mt Everest.
