Steven Gerrard and Jurgen Klopp sign new contracts on the same day, expiring in the same year, and Liverpool fans think they know what it means

This can’t just be coincidence, right?

Just an hour after Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard signs a new contract at Rangers, the Reds announce a new deal for Jurgen Klopp.

What’s more, both contracts expire in the same year: 2024.

All we’re saying is that makes it super convenient for Gerrard to replace Klopp in five years’ time, doesn’t it? You would almost think that’s been the plan all along.

Gerrard’s contract was set to expire in 2022, so was Klopp’s, and they’ve both extended for the exact same amount of time on the exact same day.

And we weren’t the only ones to notice.

It gets even spookier when you realise Boris Johnson also secured five more years in office today. Could he be in the fold as well?

That might be a bit of a stretch, but there’s nothing unlikely about Gerrard returning to Anfield in 2024.

The bookies have him at 10/11 to become the next Liverpool manager, according to Oddschecker.

Gerrard, who took over at Ibrox, said earlier today: “When Dave King approached me about the possibility of extending my contract with Rangers, it was a very easy decision to make because I’m very happy and feel that we are building something special together at the club.

“I’d like to thank the board for the backing they have given me already in my time at the club and also most importantly, the Rangers fans who have given me and the team such tremendous backing both this season and last.”

Meanwhile, Klopp said: “This club is in such a good place, I couldn’t contemplate leaving.”

We’ll see what happens in five years’ time.
