Tottenham stadium update: What will be the first game in new home? Will it be this season?
Tottenham confirmed recently that their new stadium has been hit by further delays and won’t be ready until at least March.
Club chairman Daniel Levy apologised to Spurs fans for the latest setback, which has been caused by ongoing construction and safety issues.
The new 62,062-capacity ground was due to be completed last September but the club won’t be able to move into the arena for several weeks yet.
As the stadium saga continues, when could Tottenham finally head back to White Hart Lane?
What games will Spurs play at Wembley?
Tottenham have been at the National Stadium since the start of last season and will continue to use it for their upcoming home games.
They will be at Wembley for the Champions League Round of 16 tie against Borussia Dortmund on February 13.
The stadium’s inaugural game will not be played against Arsenal on March 2 as it has been blocked over security fears.
When could Spurs play their first game at the new ground?
As it currently stands, the earliest game to become the stadium’s first would be the Premier League match against London rivals Crystal Palace on March 17.
But the need for test events and safety checks could mean that match will also need to be played at Wembley.
Tottenham then face Brighton in the Premier League on April 6 before hosting Huddersfield on April 13 with both fixtures appearing to be more likely dates at this stage.
Should Spurs progress in Europe, a Champions League quarter-final tie could also work on either April 9 or 10 or April 16 or 17 depending on the draw.
What have the club said?
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy said in a statement: “I should like to apologise to our fans and thank you for your continued patience.
“The response from those who attended the familiarisation event was great to hear and reinforced our commitment to deliver an exceptional matchday experience for everyone.
“We shall now seek clarity in respect of building test schedules and test event dates and provide further information on these in the next two to three weeks.”
