Vikings Set for Dual with Western Colorado, Tournament in Nebraska
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The Augustana wrestling team starts the new year with its third-consecutive home dual on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Elmen Center. The Vikings (2-2) take on the Mountaineers of Western Colorado University (1-1).
After the home dual, the Vikings head to Fremont, Nebraska, on Saturday to compete in the Viking-Warrior Open, starting at 9 a.m.

The Mountaineers
Western Colorado has competed in two duals and four open tournaments to start its 2019-20 campaign. The Mountaineers picked up a 28-13 win over then-No. 24 Chadron State in their first home dual of the season on Nov. 15. Their lone loss came on the road to Colorado Mesa by a score of 24-22.
The Mountaineers will make the most of their trip to the midwest. After facing Augustana on Thursday, they will head to Mankato, Minnesota, to take on the Minnesota State Mavericks on Saturday. After that dual, the Mountaineers take on the Huskies of St. Cloud State on Sunday in St. Cloud, Minnesota, before heading back home to Colorado.

Viking-Warrior Open
Augustana will compete against Chadron State, Grand View, Midland and Nebraska-Kearney in its fifth and final tournament of the season. The Vikings have had at least one champion in three of the four tournaments that they have competed in this season and have nine individual champions overall.
The Vikings
Augustana is coming off a pair of impressive dual wins against national vote-getter UW-Parkside and No. 2 ranked Nebraska-Kearney. The wins moved the Vikings to 2-2 on the season and 2-0 against NCAA Division II competition. Augustana saw four wrestlers go 2-0 against the Rangers and Lopers inside the Elmen Center, redshirt freshman Hunter Burnett at 141 pounds, redshirt freshman Jacob Tvinnereim at 157 pounds, junior Ben Kelvington at 174 pounds and sophomore Daniel Bishop at 197 pounds.
Burnett moved to 18-7 on the season with five falls, four major decisions, and six tech falls. Tvinnereim owns a 15-8 record with two falls, four major decisions, and one tech fall. Kelvington’s record is 6-2 with four major decisions and one tech fall. Bishop’s state line moved to 9-6 with one fall, one major decision and five tech falls.

Wrestler to Watch
Redshirt freshman Hunter Burnett went 2-0 at 141 pounds on Dec. 20 and led the Vikings to wins against No. 2 ranked University of Nebraska-Kearney and UW-Parkside. Burnett defeated UNK’s Wesley Dawkins, who was a national finalist last season, by a 9-4 decision. He also defeated UW-Parkside’s Pernevlon Sheppard, who is a two-time national qualifier, by a major decision, 18-7, with over three minutes of riding time.
One Last Thing
After the Viking-Warrior Open on Saturday, the Vikings begin NSIC duals, starting with the Northern State Huskies on Thursday, Jan. 9 inside the Elmen Center.
