Ary Graca new president of FIVB
Dr. Ary Graça, President of the Brazilian Volleyball Federation, was named as President of the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB).
Ary Graca was elected at the 33rd FIVB World Congress which took place in Anaheim, USA. Dr. Ary Graca replaces the incumbent FIVB President, Jizhong Wei in the FIVB’s first democratic election.
Speaking about his appointment, Dr. Ary Graça said: “I am truly delighted to have been elected to this esteemed position and it is a huge honour to be chosen as President of the FIVB in its first-ever democratic election. I am deeply motivated and passionate about Volleyball and Beach Volleyball, and I believe that I can help make a difference to the future of the sport. I look forward to working with my colleagues to collaborate on ideas, share expertise and experience and together build a brighter and better future for the world of Volleyball.”
Dr. Ary Graça has enjoyed a long and distinguished career within the sport world. His sporting profession started in 1960 in athletics which led to a long-standing volleyball career playing in the Brazil National Volleyball Team for five years (1963 – 1968) and winning a Gold Medal for the World Master Games in the Olympic Games – Denmark (1989) plus a Gold Medal at the World Master Games – Portland (1998).
Following his success on the volleyball field, Dr. Ary Graça became President of the Brazilian Confederation of Volleyball (January 1997 – Present), and under his leadership, the federation has become a leading national player in volleyball. Dr. Ary is also President of the South American Volleyball Confederation (May 2003 – Present).
Dr. Ary Graça declared his twelve-point Manifesto at the FIVB World Volleyball League in Sofia, Bulgaria in July 2012 showcasing his proposed direction for the future of the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball, which included key points:
- To work with the media in order to provide more publicity for Volleyball, and develop new, creative platforms to promote the sport, especially harnessing digital media channels to attract new, young audiences in new markets;
- To “integrate, to integrate, to integrate”, so that every affiliated person feels part of the Volleyball Family and demonstrate that Volleyball is an unified sport; and
- To ensure the continued growth of the game by developing exciting new event concepts and compelling content that attracts the greater interest of new fans, broadcasters and sponsors – providing greater revenue streams for National Federations.
