Announcers for Rumble, G1 Supercard Main Event, Ryan on Ivelisse
It was recently reported that Jerry “The King” Lawler has signed a brand new deal with WWE, which means that the WWE Hall of Famer will continue to do announcing for WWE shows for years to come. During the newest edition of his Dinner With the King podcast, Lawler confirmed that he is already getting back to work with the company. Lawler said that he will be calling the men’s Royal Rumble match this month along with JBL and Michael Cole. Lawler typically returns to the commentary table during some of WWE’s biggest events of the year. He called the Rumble match last year, and he will be returning to do the same during this year’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view in Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona on January 27th.
Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling will be teaming up this April to put one one of their biggest and most ambitious shows in the history of either promotion. The event is called the G1 Supercard, and it will take place in the world famous Madison Square Garden arena in New York City. Which match will close out the historic event? According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, that match may have already been decided on a while ago. Meltzer says that Hiroshi Tanahashi and Kazuchika Okada will do battle in the main event for the evening. It was noted that Tetsuya Naito and Chris Jericho have also been brought up as potential headliners, but at this point, it seems more likely that Okada and Tanahashi will be the final match for the G1 Supercard.
As reported earlier today, Lucha Underground star Ivelisse took to social media to express her frustration with those running the show. Ivelisse said that she has been trying to get released from Lucha Underground so that she may continue her career elsewhere, but she claims that Lucha Underground officials are refusing to let her go. Since then, fellow Lucha Underground competitor Joey Ryan has chimed in with his thoughts on the matter, throwing his support behind Ivelisse. Ryan also added that talks of a possible fifth season for Lucha Underground have stalled for now, leaving tons of the roster members with no choice but to remain under contract. Lucha Underground has not released a statement on Ivelisse’s claims as of yet.
I back Ivelisse 100% on this. Prior to S4, we were told anybody who requested a release would be granted one. Some did and left after the tapings. Others showed faith in the product and now seems are being punished for it. With no S5 in sight, it’s petty to keep anyone locked up. https://t.co/sBluiCWamY
