Cody Wins NWA World Title, Jericho Attacks Omega, Gordon Appears

Cody Rhodes already had plenty of reasons to be proud during the night of All In. His ambitious wrestling show was a major critical and financial success last night, and as if that was not enough, the night also saw Rhodes win the prestigious NWA World Heavyweight Championship. Rhodes took on previous champion Nick Aldis during All In and received a tremendous ovation from the crowd in attendance when he was able to win the match and capture the title for the first time in his career. Of course, several fans still associate the old NWA title with Cody’s late father, Dusty Rhodes, so it was definitely an emotional night for him last night. It will be interesting to see how Rhodes continues the family legacy as the new champion of the NWA.

Just about every single independent wrestler available right now took part in the All In event last night, but there were a couple of surprises during the show that went unannounced. One of the biggest shocks of the night came during Kenny Omega’s match against Pentagon Jr. After Omega defeated Pentagon, the lights went out in the arena and later came back on with a fully recovered Pentagon attacking Omega. He laid him out with a Codebreaker before revealing himself as Chris Jericho. Jericho’s history with Omega goes back to their Wrestle Kingdom match earlier this year. It appears now that a rematch could be on the horizon as Jericho grabbed a microphone and challenged Omega to a fight during the upcoming Cruise of Jericho.

As mentioned earlier, there were a fair amount of surprises during All In last night, and another one came during the Over Budget Battle Royale during All In: Zero Hour. It seemed as if Bully Ray had won the match after last eliminating Colt Cabana, but the former WWE Tag Team Champion was ambushed and thrown out of the ring by an uneliminated Chico El Luchador. After the match was over, the wrestler unmasked himself and turned out to be Flip Gordon, who has been trying to get booked on All In for months as part of a storyline. As a result of the battle royale win, Gordon challenged Jay Lethal for the ROH World Championship later on in the night, but he was ultimately unable to win the title.
