Update on Jericho’s Time in WWE, Raw Star Receives Name Change

On the most recent edition of Smackdown, none other than Chris Jericho made his unannounced return to WWE. Jericho came down to the ring to confront Kevin Owens and AJ Styles. He demanded a match for the United States Championship, and this eventually led to Shane McMahon announcing a triple threat match for the title later in the show. The match had Owens, Styles, and Jericho all fight each other valiantly, but in the end, Styles ended up pinning Jericho to regain the United States Championship. Jericho’s return came much earlier than most fans originally expected, so how long will he be back with the company for?
As far as Jericho’s return to the company, his recent Smackdown appearance was not just a one-off deal. Chris Jericho is going to be back with WWE a while, but not too much longer. According to Dave Meltzer on Wresting Observer Radio, Chris Jericho is probably only back for a few shows and he will probably be departing again in September. He and his band Fozzy have an upcoming tour in Europe beginning after September 16th. It seems likely that Jericho has returned for a big match at this year’s SummerSlam show, but he is expected to leave again not long after that. He is going to be working on the Smackdown brand until the tour with his band begins though.
In other news, it appears that one of the more recent additions to the Raw roster has undergone a name change. “The Drifter” Elias Samson has been going by that name ever since he was signed to WWE back in 2014. However, on the most recent edition of Raw, he was being referred to as simply “Elias.” Following this, his profile on WWE.com has been updated and only features his first name. It definitely looks as though WWE has decided to drop the last name and just have “The Drifter” only use the name Elias. Elias was promoted to the main roster after Wrestlemania this year, lately he’s been involved in a feud with Finn Balor.
