We may not know a whole lot just yet about the upcoming Women’s Tournament on the WWE Network this summer, but now we do know the name of the new show. It was announced earlier today that the first-ever Mae Young Classic tournament coming to the WWE Network will be airing soon. The tournament features 32 different female talents from around the world, all of whom have yet to be officially named. Triple H had to say the following: “The Mae Young Classic will mark a significant moment in the evolution of WWE,” as well as, “we are proud to provide this unique opportunity for the best female talent from around the world.”
The Mae Young Classic is obviously named after WWE Hall of Famer Mae Young. Young is regarded as a pioneer in women’s professional wrestling. She wrestled in the 30s, 40s, and 50s, and she became the first NWA United States Women’s Champion in history. Young is perhaps remembered more for her time working with WWE in the late 90s and early 2000s, where became involved in some of WWE’s more memorable segments. Young is both a WWE Hall of Famer and she is in the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame, she passed away in 2014 at the age of 90. As a result of her historic legacy on professional wrestling, the tournament has been named after Young.
The tournament is scheduled to air sometime later in August. The show will commence taping officially on Thursday, July 13th, and Friday, July 14th from Full Sail University. Tickets go on sale this Friday at 10am EST. We’re definitely getting closer to the premiere date of this new show, more details are to follow in the next few weeks. It may not be too much longer until we hear about some of the participants in the tournament. Get ready to see the all-female Mae Young Classic tournament later on this year on the WWE Network.
