Aaron Wan-Bissaka: How did Manchester United star perform against Leeds in his first start for the Red Devils?

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has made his first start for Manchester United since completing his £50million move from Crystal Palace.

The right-back, 21, featured in their victory over Perth Glory at the weekend but made his full debut in a pre-season friendly against rivals Leeds United – a game Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men won comfortably.

Goals from Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford, Phil Jones and Anthony Martial were enough to secure the 4-0 victory.

Wan-Bissaka played the first 45 minutes and had plenty of good moments, including the assist for Greenwood’s goal on six minutes.

But what else did Wan-Bissaka get up to and how well did the England Under-21 man perform? Below you can see talkSPORT.com’s scout report.

Defending

Manchester United were not good enough last season so the primary reason behind signing Wan-Bissaka was to shore things up at the back.

He was generally fine, making some important tackles and blocks to prevent attacks on the Leeds left developing.

However, there were a few times when Leeds’ left winger Jack Harrison got the better of Wan-Bissaka and there was a five-minute spell where Harrison managed to beat his man and send in a dangerous low cross before beating the right-back again and hitting the resulting shot into the side-netting.

Crossing

Wan-Bissaka didn’t produce many crosses in the match, mainly because he wasn’t required to as the Red Devils were in control throughout.

But when he was required, Wan-Bissaka made it count.

On six minutes, when he won a 50-50 challenge against Harrison, he laid the ball on a plate for Greenwood to smash home from close range.

Passing

Again, Wan-Bissaka was not required to be that creative as it was a comfortable match for his team.

A lot of his passing were simple balls to Paul Pogba, who Wan-Bissaka linked up with very well at points.

Attack

As already mentioned, Wan-Bissaka did brilliantly to provide the assist for the first goal which set Manchester United on their way.

There was also a moment of magic from Wan-Bissaka on 14 minutes when he managed to deceive Harrison near the halfway line by flicking a bouncing ball over the Leeds man’s head. This eventually led to a chance for Pogba, who forced a save from Kiko Casilla.

Rating – 7/10

Overall, a good debut for Wan-Bissaka. He got off to a blinder with the assist for Greenwood’s goal and had positive moments when he went forward, linking up with Pogba well a few times.

Wan-Bissaka made good tackles and blocks but Leeds did get a bit of joy down his side which is something he’ll have to work on in future matches.
