AJ Styles Wins United States Championship at MSG Live Event

It has been quite a newsworthy day for WWE. Austin Aries is officially done with the company, and Dixie Carter was revealed to be coming on to the WWE Network’s upcoming documentary on Kurt Angle. We’re not even done yet though. WWE held a live event from Madison Square Garden in New York City this past Friday night. The company always does their best to go all out for any show that emanates from the iconic arena, and they’ve decided to do a rare live event title change on the show. AJ Styles defeated Kevin Owens for the United States Championship during a match at tonight’s MSG live event for Monday Night Raw.
AJ was going to be facing Owens for the US title on the upcoming Battleground pay-per-view event, but for whatever reason, the company rewarded Styles with the title early. Multiple fans and WWE themselves have confirmed that AJ did win the title with a Phenomenal Forearm that occurred after Owens had already kicked out of an earlier Styles Clash. The surprise win was beloved by the fans in attendance, and the match itself was cited as being excellent as well. This is AJ’s second title win since joining WWE last year, he already won the WWE Championship back in September at the Backlash pay-per-view. AJ Styles is now your new United States Champion.
No word on why the decision was made to put the title on Styles so early, especially since Owens was still just getting started with his “Face of America” gimmick. Regardless, the Face that Runs the Place is now the Face of America. The Battleground match is still scheduled to take place at the moment, and there have been no indications thus far that the match has been scrapped for one reason or another. Kevin Owens and AJ Styles will likely continue their feud, but this could’ve been done to get new heel challengers in line for the US title. As of this very moment though, congratulations to AJ Styles for his big championship win.
