Ajax vs Real Madrid: Four arrested as fireworks are set off outside Los Blancos’ hotel ahead of Champions League clash
Four people have reportedly been arrested following disturbances outside Real Madrid’s hotel the night before their Champions League round of 16 first leg clash with Ajax.
Los Blancos visit the Johan Cruyff Arena this evening hoping to take the next step on the road to a potential fourth successive European Cup, but the players did not have the best preparation for the match.
According to AS, a group of Ajax ultras set off fireworks and bangers last night in the De Pijp district in an attempt to cause as much noise and commotion as possible between 2:30-4:00am.
The supporters covered the entire district as they were not aware Santiago Solari’s side are staying at the Hotel Okura for their trip to the Netherlands, and it was the Okura’s staff who called the police during the disturbances.
After an hour-and-a-half the supporters were rounded up or chased away, with Real’s own security staff joining the police to deal with the ultras.
It is claimed four people were arrested during the incident.
European giants Ajax and Real Madrid meet tonight for the first time since December 2012, when Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka both scored in a 4-1 group stage win for Los Blancos.
That was the final group stage match of the 2012/13 Champions League campaign, with Real also triumphing 4-1 in the reverse fixture in Amsterdam as Ronaldo hit a hat-trick to down the four-time European Cup winners.
