Alexis Sanchez: Man United forward joins Inter Milan on season-long loan

Alexis Sanchez has joined Internazionale of Milan on a season-long loan from Manchester United, the Premier League club has confirmed.

Sanchez, who was pictured in Milan earlier this week ahead of signing for Inter, has sealed a temporary exit from Old Trafford to end his nightmare in Manchester.

Manchester United wrote on Twitter: “We can confirm that Alexis Sanchez joins Inter Milan on loan until 30 June 2020. We wish @Alexis_Sanchez the best of luck in Italy.”

He has penned a season-long deal with Antonio Conte’s side, though it is understood United will continue to pay Sanchez around £300,000-a-week of his salary during his time in Italy.

The 30-year-old arrived to a huge fanfare in January 2018 in swap deal that saw out-of-favour Henrikh Mkhitaryan head to Arsenal.

But flashes of early promise swiftly petered out and Sanchez heads to Inter having scored a meagre five goals in 45 appearances.

Sanchez reunites with former Man United team-mate Romelu Lukaku at the San Siro, with the Belgium forward joining Inter on a permanent basis earlier this month.

Lukaku scored on his debut for the Nerazzurri last weekend as they began the season with a 4-0 defeat of Lecce. Sanchez could make his debut for Inter during Sunday’s trip to Cagliari.

On completing the Sanchez deal, the Serie A giants wrote: “Throughout Alexis Sanchez’s life, football has always represented everything, and he has always been happiest with a ball between his feet.

“From now on he’ll have a chance to do this in Nerazzurri colours. So, on behalf of the entire Nerazzurri family, we’d like to wish him a very warm welcome and the best of luck. #WelcomeAlexis”

Meanwhile, the departure of Sanchez means United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer only has Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial as their main attacking options this season.

Solskjaer will also have the likes of teenagers Mason Greenwood and Angel Gomes at his disposal.

Sanchez moved to United after being one of Arsenal’s star players and even turned down the chance to sign for Manchester City.

His £505,000-per-week wages shattered the pay structure at Old Trafford though, and this caused problems with senior players, who were unhappy with how much he was earning.
