Angels designate Matt Harvey for assignment | Sporting News

The Matt Harvey era in Los Angeles was short-lived.

The Angels announced Friday they have designated the 30-year-old for assignment.

Harvey was 3-5 with a 7.09 ERA in 12 starts with the Angels this year.

He signed a one-year, $11 million deal with Los Angeles before the season as the team hoped to recapture some of his magic from his days with the Mets.

He started off well allowing two earned runs in six innings of his first start but it was all downhill from there.

He gave up eight runs in his next appearance and delivered just one more quality start in his next 11 outings while missing all of June with an upper-back strain.

The Angels now have 10 days to find a team to trade Harvey to or he will be given his outright release if he does not decide to continue at the Triple-A level which is highly unlikely.

He could also be picked up on waivers by another club.

Harvey used to be one of the best pitchers in baseball as he made an All-Star team in 2013 and was pivotal to the Mets’ run to the World Series in 2015.

But injuries and poor performance derailed his career and now he waits to see where his baseball life will continue.
