Arsenal tracking Raphaël Guerreiro

Get French Football News confirms reports that Arsenal retain an interest in Lorient’s left-sided player Raphaël Guerreiro, as first reported by Le 10 Sport and then several British newspapers.

The Portuguese international has been watched on numerous occasions by Gilles Grimandi for Arsenal over the course of the 2014/15 and 2015/16 campaigns.

However, we would exercise caution vis-à-vis claims that suggest that Arsenal have set themselves on attempting to sign Raphaël Guerreiro this summer.

From a French standpoint, Gilles Grimandi has been watching several left-backs over the course of the last 2 years. Guerreiro’s recent conversion into a left winger for Lorient might also raise questions about his suitability as a left-back.

While there is no doubt that he could become capable again in that position, Guerreiro would require a considerable period of adaptation, even if he ticks all the boxes required in attacking sense for an Arsène Wenger style of full-back.

Jürgen Klopp meanwhile is in love with Guerreiro, having already requested regular scouting reports on the player when he was manager at Dortmund. He subsequently tried to sign the player for the German side only to be told by Lorient that he was not offering enough money.

Now at Liverpool, Klopp has not lost sight of Guerreiro at all.

Certainly one to watch as we near the summer transfer window.
