Arsenal transfer news: Gunners scout former Liverpool player Suso and ‘next Steven Gerrard’ Nicolo Barella

Arsenal had scouts present at Sunday’s Serie A match between Milan and Cagliari to take a look at two potential signings.

Gunners officials took in Milan’s 3-0 defeat of the Sardinian club, with Lucas Paqueta and Krzysztof Piatek netting to secure a convincing win after Luca Ceppitelli’s own goal put the hosts in front inside the first quarter of an hour.

And, according to Tuttomercatoweb, Arsenal scouted the match to take a look at two players in particular.

Milan’s Suso, the former Liverpool player, was the first Gunners target being checked out, with Barella of Cagliari the other.

Both started and completed the full 90 minutes on Sunday evening, and while Suso looked good in Milan’s attacking performance, Barella struggled in the middle of the park.

Suso, who spent five years at Liverpool earlier in his career, has been one of Serie A’s best attacking players over the past couple of years, and he’s already scored five goals and created a further eight this season.

The versatile 25-year-old attacker has previously been linked with Chelsea, but now Arsenal are taking a look at him ahead of a potential swoop.

Barella, who plays in central midfield, is also one of Serie A’s best performers, and the 22-year-old has earned rave reviews since breaking onto the scene.

He has been dubbed the ‘next Steven Gerrard’ for his all-action performances in the middle of the park, and he’s also already won four caps for Italy.

Barella will not come cheap, however, with Cagliari reportedly demanding around £44million (€50million) if they are to sell their most prized asset.
