According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the plan to begin airing both Progress Wrestling and ICW on the WWE Network is once again back on, and an announcement is expected to be made during, or around the dates of the upcoming WWE UK Championship tournament in June.

At this point, it’s unknown what from either promotion will actually be added to the Network. Both companies have their own online subscription services, which you would think they would have to do away with if either actually reaches a deal with WWE.

Interestingly, WWE has recently gone out of their way to sign up a ton of the major talent on the U.K. scene. With guys like Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate, historically, they’ve been brought into NXT and worked WWE events, but are still allowed to take indie bookings, albeit with a much smaller pool of promotions to choose from.

Essentially, WWE is buying up the regional talent and restricting where they can perform, but paying them enough that it doesn’t really matter. This effectively freezes out the smaller promotions that aren’t in the “inner circle” promoted by the company. Of course there’s still plenty of talent out there to book, especially with more and more American names making that trip every month, but the core U.K. names that are selling a bulk of the tickets to these shows are basically now exclusive to a small handful of “WWE approved” destinations.
