Brendan Rodgers reveals to talkSPORT Leicester have turned down TWO bids for Harry Maguire that were ‘nowhere near’ club’s valuation

Brendan Rodgers has told talkSPORT both Leicester City and Harry Maguire are ‘relaxed’ about the defender’s future because no club has met the Foxes’ valuation of the player.

Manchester City and Manchester United have both been linked with moves for the 26-year-old, with reports on Monday suggesting the Red Devils had made an £80million bid for the former Hull City man.

Speaking after the Foxes’ 1-0 pre-season win over Scunthorpe, Rodgers revealed there had been two bids for the England international.

But both offers were deemed unsatisfactory and Maguire will remain at Leicester unless their valuation is met.

“It’s pretty simple really and we are quite relaxed about it,” Rodgers said of the situation surrounding Maguire.

“Harry is a top class player and of course this has attracted interest, with two bids coming in.

“But they are nowhere near to meeting the valuation of the club. Harry is relaxed about it, we are, he’s been absolutely brilliant.

“I really have to add, because I have been in this situation a number of times where it can be very, very difficult for players.

“But he is a special guy. You see him on the pitch, but off the pitch he’s been very professional. The supporters need to know how he has been.

“He’s never once sulked, he has just gone with it, he’s integrated into the group, he’s smiled, he’s taken part in everything we have wanted to do and he was sick yesterday and we had a number of players that were sick yesterday after we came back from our trip.

“And in these circumstances it can be very easy for him not to play, but he wanted to be with the squad. He came here to play and you can see the quality he has in that 45 minutes.”

Since moving to the King Power Stadium in 2017, Maguire has gone from strength-to-strength.

Strong in the tackle and dominant in the air, the centre-half also possesses incredible technique and a glorious range of passing.

So while Rodgers can understand the interest in the defender, the Northern Irishman maintains Maguire has acted like a consummate professional throughout proceedings.

He added: “I know there has been a lot of noise from third parties and what not. Listen, any conversation with me and a player would be private really.

“But I respect and understand if the teams like Manchester City or Manchester United are interested.

“I have worked at that level with Liverpool and I understand what the attraction can be for a player to go to one of those clubs.

“But like I say, we are all pretty relaxed because until the valuation is met, then there is not really a decision.”
