Brendan Rodgers would SNUB Arsenal to stay at Leicester, claims Jason Cundy – ‘They don’t have that draw right now’
Brendan Rodgers may reject the chance to take over at Arsenal next summer if Leicester continue their superb start to the season.
That’s according talkSPORT host Jason Cundy, who sees no reason why the Northern Irishman would leave the Foxes if they secure a return to the Champions League.
Leicester have been the surprise package of the Premier League season so far, with the Foxes sitting just two points below Manchester City in third place.
Rodgers has reinvigorated the 2015/16 champions since his arrival from Celtic in February and many are tipping his young and hungry side to end the traditional ‘top four’ hegemony and force their way into a Champions League spot.
Following Tuesday’s 3-1 Carabao Cup win over Burton Albion, which saw Kelechi Iheanacho, Youri Tielemans and James Maddison find the net, Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville even admitted Rodgers will be ‘linked with the very best jobs in English football’ if he guides Leicester to the top four.
Arsenal are one of the clubs that could come calling. With fans unhappy with Unai Emery and the contract he signed meaning he could leave at the end of the season, it’s a possibility the Gunners could be in the market and Rodgers would no doubt be an attractive option.
But, asked if the boss would leave Leicester to take charge of the Gunners, Cundy said on Tuesday’s Sports Bar: “Well, not if Leicester get Champions League football, that’s a tough call isn’t it?
“To take Leicester into the Champions League and then [leave for] Arsenal who are in the Europa League? I think Brendan would want to [stay].
“I’m not so sure Arsenal have that draw right now.
“Leicester have got a better chance of keeping Brendan if they get Champions League football.”
